Featured Project: Salmon Creek Net Zero Remodel

The Salmon Creek farmhouse was a multi-phase restoration rejuvenating one of the county’s original homesteads in Vancouver, Washington. Built in 1920, the home began as a a small, functional farmhouse , and evolved over the years to become a 1,200 square feet 2 bedroom, 1 bath living space. An addition was designed to add 1,000 square feet to the home’s footprint, creating a more open living space and adding an additional bedroom and bathroom. Sustainable building practices and materials were incorporated throughout the interior and exterior design paying tribute to the native climate while minimizing environmental impact. The vision for the property is to create a self-sustaining urban micro farm. The property’s two acres feature over 30 varieties of fruits, vegetables and wildlife-supporting trees and shrubs sourced from local nurseries and garden clubs. A 5kW solar system allows the home to achieve net zero energy in summer months and subsidize energy costs all year round. The property and home are designed to serve as a living experiment for urban sustainable living in Clark County.
